Current Pests of Concern in the New England Landscape with Robert D. Childs

Registration is $25 by November 7 and $35 after that date.

 

Along with dealing with familiar insect pests in the landscape, such as specific caterpillars, aphids, spider mites and many others, Massachusetts residents are also becoming familiar with such exotic invaders as hemlock woolly adelgid, viburnum leaf beetle, lily leaf beetle, Asian longhorn beetle, winter moth and more.

Here in the New England landscape we are surrounded by stone walls of all shapes and fashions,  including the more modern walls of stone and mortar, building veneer and cement products. But have you ever wondered how the old time walls still stand without any mortar tying the structure together? In this workshop, participants will learn about the proper methods to prepare and construct a dry stack (mortar less) stone wall with a focus on creating walls with stair returns.

In this class we will identify the different types of irrigation methods being used in today’s landscape industry, with a primary focus on drip irrigation for both lawns and beds. Participants will learn about the differences in systems with a focus on the newest cutting edge water conservation equipment in the current market and the actual facts and water requirements for private property drip systems.
